Who doesn’t want a sense of wellbeing and flourishing in life? Part of achieving this involves self-care, a term that is easily dismissed by health professionals! However, given we have a ‘global epidemic of burnout’, it makes sense to rethink it. We will explore the nature of burnout and focus on prevention as well as recovery. In particular, we can look into some of the characteristics of health professionals, such as perfectionism and altruism, which may make us more vulnerable to ‘burning out’. We will also consider some of the latest information about how to optimise your wellbeing, and you will come away with a few tools to help you along the way.
