Module 2 – Services without a MBS Rebate

There are many services provided in general practice that do not have an MBS rebate. Compliance must start with knowing what you cannot bill for, as all other clinically relevant services will then either have a specific item number or be billed as a time-based consultation.

The Medicare Benefits Schedule contains over 6000 item numbers of which over 300 are billable by General Practitioners. Identifying the components of the schedule assist clinicians with being able to locate the relevant billing requirements, both from overriding rules and specific item requirements. This module takes the practitioner step by step through each category of the MBS explaining which services are found in each category. It provides the basics in understanding the schedule fees to various rebates to patients.
